Jo Pate has been volunteering with the Selma Art Guild for seven years, and through those years she has loved every minute of it.

Her interest in the organization piqued after attending one of its events.

“I went to one of the shows and met the people that were in the Selma Art Guild,” she said. “I went to one of the meetings, and there I was.”

A former president of the organization for two years, Pate now serves as the secretary.

This year makes her third year in the position.

“The Art Guild is for visual artists,” she said. “We represent the people in town that would like to participate and have a place to display their artwork.”

Pate volunteers at the guild throughout the month on Fridays and Saturdays from noon until 4 p.m. She also assists with other office duties for the organization.

“I put together a scrapbook to document what we had done,” she said. “I did that for about three years.”

Pate said she believes she joined the organization right on time.

“I was new in town and I wanted to meet people,” she said. “The Art Guild went along with where I was with my life. It went along with my interests.”
