New York church group visits Queen City memorials

The Selma and Dallas County Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Information along with Dianne Harris led a tour group from Beulah Baptist Church form Poughkeepsie, New York on Wednesday.

Charise Clay, the Destination and Marketing Coordinator from the chamber and Harris led the group beginning at the Edmund Pettus Bridge that morning.

“They were engulfed in the history of the bridge and felt a deep connection to what happened there,” said Clay. “After marveling at the Selma to Montgomery March memorials and posing for photos, they headed to the National Voting Rights Museum.

“Coming back to Selma, they visited the Selma Interpretive Center before having lunch at Ms. Harris’ home church, Trinity Lutheran Church. On the way, Ms. Harris highlighted some historical sites throughout the city.”

Beulah Baptist Church tour coordinator, Stacey Bottoms said the experience was like anything she and the group had experienced before.

Clay said the chamber looks forward to hosting the church group again.
