Selma City School Board approves personnel actions

The Selma City School system now has a new Director of Operations in Edgewood Elementary Principal Joe Peterson Jr.
Peterson was one of many new personnel approved in the Selma City School (SCS) Board of Education’s special called meeting on Monday.
“Our hire included seven certified teachers from Teach for America,” said SCS Superintendent Dr. Avis Williams. “We are really excited about including these teachers as part of our Team Selma. Six of these teachers are going to R.B. Hudson and one to Selma High School. My goal is to ensure that we have a qualified and certified teacher in every classroom when our students return on Aug. 6.”
Employment of professional certified services included Margaret Jones as a special education teacher at Selma High School and Jessica Roberson, a ninth and tenth-grade ELA Teacher.
At R.B. Hudson Middle School, the board approved the employment of Dawn Mitchell Facey as a seventh-grade math teacher, Louis Brown as a seventh and eighth-grade history teacher, Anjelica Harlow as an eighth-grade math teacher, Ariana Atwell as an eighth-grade science teacher and Kathryn Saltzman as an ELA teacher.
At Meadowview Elementary School, Rainean Terry was named as a new reading coach. Williams said with Terry’s hiring, that each school now has a full-time reading coach that will not have to be split between two schools.
Ashley Ross Hardy was approved as a counselor at Meadowview Elementary School.
At Sophia P. Kingston Elementary School, Tamera Carter was approved as a reading coach. Williams said this hire also would assist with having a reading coach at all appropriate campuses, and would stop the splitting of a coach’s time in different schools.
In employment of Professional Classified Service employees, William Davis was approved as a custodian at Payne Elementary School, Tonya Jackson and Lydia Pettaway were approved as instructional aides at Selma High School.
At R.B. Hudson Middle School, Latangela Seay was approved as a bookkeeper.
The board also approved five resignations and one termination.
