These events are designated to their own week, with volleyball being the focus of the first week in June, basketball for the 2nd, soccer for the 3rd, and football for 4th.
The YMCA is also set to provide an academic portion along side its sports.

Lasting from 2 to 5:30 p.m., the academic portion of the summer camp seeks to teach children the essentials for their next school year. Art, math and reading comprehension will be taught by certified teachers, and will rotate by the hour.

This is the first time the YMCA is doing a sports-based summer camp along with an academic portion.
And the entire YMCA staff will be involved in the program.

Chase Morris, Associate program director from the YMCA of Selma and Dallas County, will be at the sign-in table at 7:00 a.m.

Morris has been a summer councilor at a non-local YMCA, prior to joining to Selma and Dallas County’s YMCA team. He is thrilled to be assisting the YMCA’s summer camp once again, however this time at a higher position.

“Its exciting. Being in control of the operations for the first time is a new experience. Making an impact on the younger generation is why I chose to work at the YMCA.”

Currently, 25 children have registered, however, Morris, as well as the other staff of the YMCA, wish for more participants.

“I encourage people to come out an experience the YMCA during our summer program,” Morris stated. “I think it’s very beneficial from a personal standpoint, an athletic standpoint and academic standpoint as well. Bringing kids together, building camaraderie in the summer program, and also being involved with academics will be a great experience for the kids.”
