Two Selma teenagers have been arrested by the Selma Police Department for allegedly robbing parishioners outside of a Selma church Sunday morning, and another teenager is wanted.

According to Selma Police Chief Spencer Collier, the two juveniles in custody have been charged with multiple counts of first-degree robbery and have been charged as adults. Collier identified them as 16-year-old Janera Oliver and 15-year-old Anthony Patterson.

A third suspect, who has not been arrested yet, has also been identified. He is considered armed and dangerous, and due to the interest of public safety, Collier identified the suspect as 14-year-old Arliss Howard.

“Unfortunately, both citizens were parishioners simply trying to attend church when they were traumatically robbed at gunpoint. Robbing church members entering church is one of the lowest crimes that you can imagine,” Collier said.

The first robbery happened around 10:45 a.m. outside Mount Zion Primitive Baptist Church on Union Street. A church member was robbed at gunpoint.

Collier said 15 minutes later, a second victim, a juvenile, was also robbed at gunpoint by the same three suspects from the initial robbery.

The three suspects were spotted by patrol units.

One of them escaped on foot, while the other two were arrested at gunpoint. The female suspect was in possession of a handgun, which was allegedly used in the robberies.

“Fortunately, we got two of the individuals quickly and I am very proud of our patrol officers.  Make no mistake about it, the suspects may be young in age, but they are ruthless criminals,” Collier said.

“We will be relentless in pursuit of the final suspect and we will catch him. We are committed to prosecuting all three to the fullest extent of the law. The citizens of Selma deserve better.”

Oliver and Patterson were both booked into the Dallas County Jail. Oliver is being held on $210,000 bond.

Collier said there was an attempt to raise her bond Monday.

According to Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson, Patterson’s bond was set at $1 million by District Judge Robert Armstrong Monday during a preliminary hearing.

Anyone with information on Howard’s whereabouts is asked to call the Selma Police Department at (334) 874-6611 or the Criminal Investigation Division at (334) 874-2125.
