If you hear bells ringing while you’re out shopping, it isn’t Santa on his way – its Salvation Army volunteers ringing the bells to raise money for the Red Kettle Campaign.

The Salvation Army kicked off its campaign Thursday on the steps of Selma City Hall. Monique Brech, director of the Salvation Army’s Selma center, said they have a goal this year of $47,000.

Last year, they had a goal of $45,000 and fell shy, but this year she is hoping to make that goal or even surpass it.

Donating to the Salvation Army during the Red Kettle Campaign is simple. You just put any change or cash in the red kettle as you pass by. The kettles will be in several locations throughout town, and they will be there until Dec. 23.

Brech said the Selma and Dallas County community never fails to help out during its kettle campaign and can’t wait to see people giving back as the volunteers ring the bells for donations.
