Some parts of Alabama may see snow on Tuesday, but Selma likely won’t be getting any wintry precipitation.

According to the National Weather Service in Birmingham, small, narrow bands could result in isolated snow accumulation in the northern and central parts of the state. If snow does fall, it’s expected to be light.

The chance of snow showers extends as far south as Auburn and includes Clanton, Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, Anniston and Gadsden.

Dallas County is located just south of the forecasted area.

“We’re going to have passing snow showers starting in the early evening hours and continuing into the day tomorrow,” said meteorologist Gerald Satterwhite, who works with the National Weather Service in Birmingham. “We should start seeing a few snow showers breaking out as early as 6 p.m. [Monday] evening and they will continue off and on through the night.”

Satterwhite said the snow showers should stop by Tuesday afternoon.

“Even if we do have some snow coming down, it’s not going to be a commuting issue,” Satterwhite said.

The temperature is projected to drop below freezing over Monday night and into Tuesday. Satterwhite said showers will be heavier in some areas than others. According to the National Weather Service, snow will not be persistent, but rather isolated to scattered showers.

“Snow showers should be out of the area by Tuesday,” Satterwhite said. “It is not a significant event, just passing snow showers. In some areas there might be a light coating and others will be nothing.”

Dallas County Emergency Management and Homeland Security Director Toya Stiles said she isn’t ruling out all chances of snow, but she knows it’s not likely.

“We are not expecting any snow accumulations in Dallas County. If anything, we could possibly see snow flurries and breezy air. That’s about it,” Stiles said. “There is no big threat.”

The forecasted high temperature in Selma on Tuesday is 47 degrees, with a low of 25 degrees.

The temperature is expected to stay in the 40s Wednesday before warming up into the 60s on Thursday and Friday.
