The Selma Quarterback Club is expecting its biggest crowd of the year for next Thursday night’s speaker.

On Oct. 8 at 6 p.m., Leigh Anne Tuohy will be coming to speak at the Selma Convention Center as a part of the Selma Quarterback Club’s annual ladies’ night.

Quarterback Club members are welcome to bring their wives and significant others to the event. Guests who wish to attend can purchase tickets at $45 the day of the event. Tickets can be bought in advance up to Oct. 7 and cost $35 apiece.

Tuohy is best known for being the legal guardian of Michael Oher, who was a first round pick of the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens and currently plays with the Carolina Panthers. Oher’s story became famous in the 2009 movie, “The Blind Side”, which told how Tuohy became involved in his life. Sandra Bullock portrayed Tuohy in the movie and won an Academy Award and Golden Globe for her performance.

Quarterback Club captain Ray Hogg said he expects a packed house, with well over 200 people to be in attendance. Hogg said the women in Selma are especially excited about Tuohy coming to town.

“Just about everybody I’ve talked to has said, ‘My wife, she wouldn’t miss that for the world,’” Hogg said.

Hogg said his daughters are constantly being asked by friends how to get tickets to the event. The easiest way Hogg said for guests to attend is to purchase a ticket the day of the event.

Although the event is still a week away, the excitement is already building for Tuohy’s visit. Hogg said Tuohy may go down as one of the top five speakers the Quarterback Club has welcomed since he has been there. He joined in 1987.

Tuohy’s arrival will help the Quarterback Club in more ways than one. Hogg said scheduling her to come helped grow membership this year. He’s also excited about the increased scholarship money Thursday’s event will provide.

“We take whatever we make and put it in local scholarships every year so it’s pretty important to us,” Hogg said.
