ArtsRevive campaign will improve downtown

ArtsRevive started small but always had big dreams for the future. More of those dreams are soon to be reality.

The nonprofit has begun a capital campaign to raise $1,000,000.

That money would be used across three phases.

The first phase will turn the current Carneal Building into an arts and cultural center. The interior would be remodeled to include a community meeting, classrooms and multi-use space.

The second phase will include creating a new retail space for artists to display and sell their work.

The final phase will create a community garden that will serve as a community hub.

The hope is to have all this work finished within the next year, but funding is key to how much work will be finished and how quickly.

“I would hope that [the community] sees that there’s a group of people who truly believe in the possibility that’s Selma,” said Martha Lockett, ArtsRevive’s executive director.

We hope the community will support this great cause. ArtsRevive’s motto is “Where art builds community.”

Between ArtsRevive’s campaign and questions around the future of the St. James Hotel, the reminder of this year will be key in determining the future for Selma’s Water Avenue.
