Brown was the fourth occupant of the suspects’ vehicle during the shooting, according to Lt. Curtis Muhannad with the Selma Police Department.

A warrant was issued for Brown’s arrest Tuesday after one suspect turned himself in and two others were captured by U.S. Marshals.

Markus Latrel Brown, 26, Kevin Delano Johnson, 39, and Reginald Brown, 34, have also been charged with capital murder, two counts of attempter murder and shooting into an occupied vehicle.

Markus Brown turned himself in to the Selma Police Department last Friday after warrants were issued for his arrest, and a U.S. Marshals Task Force was able to arrest Johnson and Reginald Brown late Monday night.

According to Scott Malkowski with the U.S. Marshals Service, Jarmarkus Brown, Reginald Brown and Kevin Johnson were apprehended in the Selma area.

“We can’t release a lot of details,” Malkowski said. “Investigators did a great job with the task force and followed up a bunch of leads. We were eventually able to apprehend them.”

Malkowski said the U.S. Marshals were involved with finding the suspects as soon as the warrants were issued.

“We were involved from the beginning. We got a request to help. We have a great relationship with the Selma Police Department,” Malkowski said.

The four men are allegedly responsible for a drive-by shooting that happened last Wednesday, July 22 around 9:30 p.m.

One of the three men that were shot told investigators it happened when they were stopped at the traffic light at the intersection of U.S. Highway 80 East and Roosevelt Avenue.

As the silver pickup truck the three victims were riding in started to turn, shots were fired from what was described as a tan or cream-colored Chevrolet Tahoe.

The shots, which came from high-powered assault rifles, killed a 26-year-old Georgia man and injured two others.

Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson identified the 26-year-old as Tobias Cooper. He died from gunshot wounds to the stomach and thigh.

The two men that were injured are 33- and 34-years-old, but they have not been identified.

The 33-year-old was shot in the hand, and the 34-year-old was shot in the head. The 33-year-old was treated at Vaughan Regional Medical Center the night of the shooting and later released.

According to Lt. Curtis Muhannad, the 34-year-old, who was transferred to a Montgomery hospital, is still listed in critical condition.

All four suspects are related, and Investigators believe the shooting was a form of retaliation for previous incidents involving family members.

“One of the suspects, Kevin Johnson, his son was shot here a couple of months ago,” Muhannad said. “Also, one of their relatives was shot and killed on the base, and Mr. Markus Brown was assaulted and robbed in the Selmont area. We believe all three things are what lead up to the vengeance.”
