The Chamber of Commerce’s Rising Star Award is a great way of recognizing some of Selma and Dallas County’s unsung local heroes.

It’s people like Charles Roscoe Jr., a post office mail carrier who was January’s recipient, that represent the city when visitors are making their way around. Roscoe is known for going out of his way to help the people on his route and always greeting people with a smile.

His dedication to his job and his outgoing personality is a good example of what we want people to see when they come and visit Selma.

The award is always presented to someone that displays outstanding customer service day in and day out. It’s the people on the front lines like December’s recipient, Gray’s Furniture employee Leroy “Mick” Williams.

Like Roscoe, Williams is said to be the type of person always willing to lend a helping hand, one quality that the chamber looks for when awarding the “Rising Star.”

People like Williams and Roscoe are the ones we want out there representing our city, especially when  we are expecting thousands of people to be touring the Queen City in the coming month.
