More American women are spending their time hunting according to National Geographic, and a new Selma company is offering products that will prepare ladies for their adventures.

The Southern Racks, which moved into the Selma’s Arsenal Place Accelerator this week, is selling non-scented shampoo, conditioner, body wash and hand and body lotion targeted toward female hunters.

Sisters and co-owners Jessica McQueen and Katie Hall began hunting at a young age. They are cosmetologists and know how helpful their products could be for other female hunters.

“I got into bow hunting so I started using the other scent-free products for hunters that were out there, and it was just harsh on your skin and hair,” McQueen said. “We wanted to design something that women could use, like a professional shampoo, conditioner and body products that you could use everyday and it not dry out your hair and skin for hunting that is scent free.”

All the products are moisturizing and sulfate-free. The shampoo and conditioner are both color-safe and can add volume to a person’s hair.

The ladies began building on their idea to offer the products in November 2013. The process included contacting a company willing to develop them, deciding what they would name their company and how the brand would be designed.

So far, Southern Racks has received a lot of positive feedback from customers, according to McQueen.

“There have been some big bucks by women that have used our product who really love it,” Hall said.

The process of getting the cosmetics launched was more of daunting task than Hall expected, but it left the ladies excited about the future.

The sisters have plans to expand their business, creating additional hair products, makeup and a men’s line.

“It’s exciting and scary at the same time still trying to make the leap,” Hall said. “I think it’ll do well. We have to get our name out.”

The group has a store located in Auburn that carries their items, but is still working on selling their merchandise from a store in the Dallas County area.
