Halloween came a day early for some kids this year. 

Super heroes, princesses, clowns, witches and more filled the parking lot at Elkdale Church and the driveways on Mallory Drive Thursday night.

“It’s a good time for the kids to see everybody and socialize, but it’s a fun time for the adults to hang out as well,” said Abbie Tucker, a parent of two little piggy’s trick-or-treating on Mallory Drive. “It’s a lot of fun.”

Trick-or-treaters continued to arrive to fill their buckets and bags with candy.

For the last 25 years, the residents of Mallory Drive have gottten together to celebrate Halloween and hand out candy to the kids in the neighborhood. Although it started out as a small event for the residents, it has continued to grow into a much bigger event.

Pam Bostick, a resident of Mallory Drive, said it started out in her yard, but the community eventually had to move it to the middle of the neighborhood, because so many people started to come.

“It’s fun. Every year it grows,” Bostick said.

Tucker and Bostick said that the kids always have a good time, and they really enjoy getting to see the children in their costumes.

Elkdale Church drew large crows to their annual Trunk-or-Treat. Hundreds of people lined the sidewalk waiting to get into festive event.

Cars with their trunks packed with decorations and candy, popcorn makers, a fire truck and bouncy houses filled the parking lot of the church.

Children went from one car to the next, picking candy.

Kids will have more opportunities to get their fill of candy on Halloween.

The Monster March in downtown Selma gives children the chance to walk down Broad Street in their costumes. Merchants will be handing out candy and surprises to the children during the march.

The event is scheduled to begin in front of the Selma-Dallas County library Friday at 3:45 p.m.

A costume contest will held afterwards at the Performing Arts Center, where kids under 12 are able to compete.
