An altercation between one man and a protective father has resulted in the shooting death of one of the two men.

Sgt. Mike Granthum, with the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department, said Selma resident Kennedy Henderson was shot and killed Sunday afternoon while sitting in his car on Keesler Drive in Craig Field.

“Mr. Blake confronted him about harassing his son,” Granthum said. “A verbal altercation broke out, and, by witness’ account, Blake pulled out a weapon, fired one time and hit him in the left side just under his armpit.”

Henderson fled the scene in his vehicle after being shot, but did not make it far before being overcome by his injuries.

“He tried to drive himself to the emergency room, by all indications, and he did not make it off of Craig Field,” Granthum said.

Henderson was found by his nephew, after his car went off the road and collided with a fence at the intersection of Laughlin Circle and Lackland Drive, which is also located on the grounds of Craig Field.

Henderson was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Granthum said they have plenty of information Blake, and authorities are doing their best to track him down to formally press charges.

“We are looking for Mr. Blake and he is driving a 2003 blue Chevrolet Silverado,” Granthum said. “All indications are that he has left the area. Capital murder charges have been placed, and he should be considered armed and dangerous.”

Granthum said authorities were waiting on an autopsy to determine the type of weapon used in the shooting.

More than a day in to the investigation, Granthum said Blake likely is aware of the manhunt he is now the target of.

“He knows we are after him,” Granthum said.
