Ahmad Hakim sold mini pies warmed as though they were fresh out of the oven. Forgetting a tent for Riverfront Market Day meant each pie warmed in the sun, waiting for hungry patrons to purchase them for enjoyment.

“Well, we’re almost out of pies,” Hakim said. “It’s been real good.”

Hakim and Audrey Carr sold the pastries at their “The Pie People” booth Saturday at Riverfront Market Day, an annual street fair on Water Avenue.

“It’s been great, and the people have been wonderful,” Carr said. “It’s just so pleasant to be here. I’m really enjoying Selma.”

The business is in the process of relocating from Montgomery to Selma and will open a store on L.L. Anderson Avenue in the next few months. Profits from the pies sold Saturday will go toward purchasing equipment for the store.

Emily Ellis, 12, spent the afternoon at Market Day with her grandmother, who performed at Songs of Selma Park.

Shopping and snacking are Emily’s two favorite things to do at the event each year.

“I like going to buy foods and snacks, and I really like the Snow Cones and ice cream,” Emily said. “But, I also really like going to look at the purses, the toys and the jewelry. I usually buy one or two things. I use my allowance that I have.”
