The Selma Police Department arrested William Earl Calhoun, 20, shortly after noon Monday at Chanticleer Apartments in connection with a shooting that occurred March 20 in the 2300 block of Hardie Avenue. During the March incident, numerous gunshot rounds were fired into an occupied residence, vehicle and surrounding area.

During Calhoun’s arrest, Jamilia Walker, 20, and Keona Hurt, 21, were also arrested; as they were aware that Calhoun was wanted by the police for several active warrants. Walker and Hurt allowed Calhoun to travel to and from their apartment for safety. Also, marijuana was found in the residence laying on a coffee table in an area occupied by children.

Selma Chief of Police William T. Riley said the department was led to Chanticleer Apartments after receiving several leads from the community.

“It was basically just old-fashion police work. We just got out there and talked to people,” Riley said of Calhoun’s arrest. “We also received help from our federal partners in the task force.”

Calhoun is currently being held at the Dallas County Jail under a $2.7 million bond for charges of attempted murder, discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling, discharging a firearm into an unoccupied vehicle and unlawful possession of marijuana in the second degree.

Walker and Hurt are held under a $28,000 bond for charges of hindering prosecution in the first degree, unlawful possession of marijuana second degree and endangering the welfare of a child.

“The message that the department wants the community to know and understand, is that if you’re going to harbor and protect these felons, we are going to hold you accountable,” Riley said. “These people are wanted for hard crimes, and we’re going to charge anyone who is keeping them safe.”

Police are still searching for Darryl Dewayne Johnson and Lamarious Prince in connection with the Hardie Avenue shootings. Both are wanted for attempted murder and two counts of discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling.
