The only suspense tied to Monday’s softball matchup between Selma High School and visiting Greensboro was how long the game would go. In the end, the game didn’t go very long as Greensboro’s coaches threw in the towel after just two and a half innings.

“I thought we would at least go to five innings, but their coach said enough in the third,” Selma High head coach Mark Fedor said after his Lady Saints cruised to a 25-6 win.

The victory moved the Lady Saints’ record to 8-8 and sets up a matchup with their in-town rivals, Ellwood, Tuesday evening.

As for Monday’s matchup, the Lady Saints put the game away early in the first inning, batting around the order twice, with some hitters seeing three at bats in the first. In that inning, Selma scored 16 runs.

“There are some things we need to continue to work on, such as our base running,” Fedor said. “We have the potential to be a good team if we continue to improve.”

In addition to their matchup against Ellwood Tuesday, Selma will travel to take on Southside and Central-Hayneville next week before getting ready for their area tournament in Demopolis.
