Valley Grande Clean Up Day on Saturday

The phrase, “Simply Beautiful” is the motto for Valley Grande and this weekend volunteers and members of the Valley Grande Council are trying to do just that — keep it pretty. A Clean Up Day is scheduled for Saturday, March 9 and volunteers are still needed.

Council member Kenneth Martin said groups will clean areas along Alabama Highway 22 and Dallas County Road 81 — areas that the council deemed the worst in the area for debris and litter.

“We had it narrowed down to about six or seven roads that are the worst with trash on the side of the road and we will try and tackle all of these at one time,” Martin said, and mentioned that volunteers and groups were assigned areas at a planning meeting earlier in the week. “But if there are still people who want to come out and volunteer that are not assigned to an area yet, they can meet me at Valley Grande City Hall at 10 a.m. on Saturday and we can assign them to meet with someone and pick up trash.”

The clean up day was organized by council members Donna Downs and Tim White and there was a similar clean up day at the same time in 2012.

Anyone who needs community service hours or would just like to help out neighbors in Valley Grande is welcome to help out and clean up the streets. Lunch will be served to everyone afterwards.

“We all live here and we all want it to stay beautiful, so come donate a few hours of your time to help keep it that way,” Martin said, encouraging more volunteers to come out to Clean Up Day.
