Artists from across the state will converge in Selma the weekend of Pilgrimage to showcase their work in an ArtsRevive Spring Juried Exhibition.

This year the exhibition will host 63 artists — a number that surpasses past exhibitions greatly.

“Multiple works were selected from many of these artists, and we are excited to have so much interest in our 11th annual show,” said Vicky Stoudenmire, event chairperson.

Saturday, a members-only reception will be held at the historic Carneal ArtsRevive building on Church Street to welcome the artists and their work. Stoudenmire said although the reception is limited to members, those who wish to join ArtsRevive can do so at the door. Membership fee is $25 for individuals and $40 per family.

A show and sale, which will be available and free to the public, will begin Pilgrimage weekend, March 16 -17. Residents can view the works at the Carneal building between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. through 4 p.m. Sunday.

Works will include oil and acrylic, 3-D, watercolor, pastels, drawings, mixed media and photography.

“We have more artists than we’ve ever had this year and a lot of variety in art selection,” Stoudenmire said. “We even have an amazing hook rug — something we’ve never had before.”

Attendees will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite piece. Artists Ted Whisenhunt and Jerry Siegel will select best in show category awards.

“Ted used to be the art director at Judson College and Jerry is a photographer from Selma who now works and lives in Atlanta,” Stoudenmire said.

The works will be on exhibit after Pilgrimage, ending April 27.

“We have paintings, sculptures, portraits, photography — just a little bit of everything,” Stoudenmire said. “Most people have no idea how much talent is in our area and it gives them the chance to see all these amazing works. It’s a really nice show and I encourage everyone to come out.”
