The more signatures the better

The importance of a college education is ever increasing and Wallace Community College has taken note. Several hundred signatures were signed Wednesday as part of Commit to Complete Day, a national initiative encouraging all college students to complete their degree.

We believe making this pledge is crucial. Especially during these unsure economic times, having a college degree is not only beneficial for increased salaries, but gives students that extra edge needed to land a well-paying career.

Also, we are fortunate here in Selma that we have so many higher education outlets. Besides Wallace, we also have Concordia College and Selma University — both fine collegiate institutions.

Kerry Henderson, Phi Theta Kappa faculty advisor at Wallace, said Wednesday that those with a college degree earn an average of $8,000 more a year compared to those who don’t. This statistic is outstanding and should be an incentive for all college students to complete their degree.

We encourage all students, whether working toward a two-year or four-year degree, to take this pledge. The rewards will be well worth it.
