Crowds of people gathered at Wallace Community College on Saturday to take part in the sixth annual Dallas County Fun and Family Health Fair.

The event lasted from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. and offered families a chance to have fun while checking up on their health.

“It’s going great so far,” said Pat Cockrell, the director of the health fair. “In the four years I have done this, this is the best we’ve put together.”

The day got started with a walk/ run at 9 a.m. before the health fair began.

“We are offering blood sugar checks and blood pressure checks,” said Dr. Bruce Taylor, a local physician. “We also have a diabetes education class.”

Vendors from across the region came to give health care information to the families that walked through the Wallace gym.

Home health care vendors, the Red Cross and Vaughan Regional Medical Center were all on hand to inform the public on a variety of health issues.

“It’s good to see so many local vendors show up,” said Taylor. “It’s going well, real well.”

Cockrell said firefighters were also on hand to exchange and properly install car seats for families that needed it.

With such a successful sixth year, Taylor said that he see the fair growing.

“I’m excited,” said Taylor. “It seems like it is getting bigger and better every year.”
