Today is election day.

Although this is not a major election, but a run-off election, the results still count.

Many people have mentioned about there being no local races.

Oh, but there is one important local race on the ballot, and it is in the District 7 congressional race.

There are two runoffs. The Democrats see Terri Sewell of Selma against Shelia Smoot of Birmingham. The Republicans see Don Chamberlain of Selma and Chris Salter of Birmingham.

Those reasons are alone enough to get everyone out to the polls.

Yet, there’s more. People have the opportunity to decide on a Republican party nominee — between Robert Bentley and Bradley Byrne — for governor.

The GOP also has runoffs for commissioner of agriculture and industries and for Public Service Commission, Place 1.

On the Democratic side, statewide, James H. Anderson is facing Giles Perkins for the nomination for state attorney general.

Don’t forget your identification and show up to vote.
