A body was discovered Sunday afternoon behind the Craig Motel and Selma police are treating the case as a homicide.

Lt. David Evans of the Selma Police Department said the body of a black female was discovered behind the motel at 1134 Hwy. 80 E. He did not say who discovered the body, but did say the body was positively identified.

Evans said the identity of the woman would not be released until police could notify family members. Police released few details as Evans said the investigation is still taking place.

He said he did not know how long the body had been behind the motel but did say it was not &uot;an extended period of time.&uot;
