Selma loses close game in Classic; Dallas County rolls over Keith

PLANTERSVILLE — Selma’s Lady Saints continued to play nail-biters in Thursday’s second edition of the fourth annual Dallas County Tip-Off Classic.

After edging past Sumter County 50-45 Wednesday, Selma lost a 60-57 game to Green County.

In the other games host Dallas County bounced Keith 65-37, and Sumter County drubbed Wilcox Central 70-30.

Greene County led Selma 26-25 at halftime before Greene County took a 44-34 lead after three periods.

Selma outscored Greene County 23-16 in the final stanza, but the rally was too late.

Keisha Moore led Selma with 24 points, while Mildrea Harris added 11.

In the Dallas County-Keith contest, the Lady Hornets started off with by taking a commanding 20-6 lead in the first quarter. The Keith Lady Bears cut the margin in each following quarter, but the lead was insurmountable.

Dallas County outscored Keith 13-8 in the second quarter, 18-11 in the third and 14-12 in the fourth.

The Lady Hornets’ Bianca Heard was the leading scorer for both teams with 20 points, while teammate Brittany Richardson added 10.

For Keith, Jasmine Thomas led the Lady Bears with 14 points.

Sumter County blew away Wilcox County both on defense and offense to take over the game 37-25 at halftime.

After Sumter County held Wilcox County scoreless in the third quarter while pouring in 23 points, the end was near.

Faith Bennett led Wilcox County’s scoring effort with 19 points.
