This January, start the New Year off right with inspirational music from the Lamb Family.

The Tuscaloosa-based violinists will perform at Church Street United Methodist Church Sunday, Jan. 15 at 2 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Director of music and organist for the church Gordon Welch said he first became acquainted with the Lambs when he was minister of music at First Baptist Church.

“I heard the group here … and I enjoyed hosting them at First Baptist,” Welch said. “I always heard they were a great family (and) great musicians. I contacted the mother of the group, and she was delighted to come back to Selma. We were able to come up with a January date.”

Consisting of siblings Karis, Kiemel, Kolson and Caleb, the ensemble received their musical training from the University of Alabama.  The Lambs’ talents have been showcased on Christian television’s Trinity Broadcasting Network, Birmingham’s the Rick and Bubba Show and in numerous magazines such as Alabama Weddings, Tuscaloosa Bridal Directory, Tuscaloosa Christian Family, Southern Living and Alabama Live, to name a few.

Welch said the group’s “faith-based” music, is what sets them a part.

“Because they are a faith-based family, they truly are a Christian family and have always established themselves as a Christian group,” Welch said. “They like to share their God-given talent with Christians and the community. It’s very important for them to share their faith through music and their testimony.”

Though the event is free, Welch encourages the public to give a love offering.

“I believe God will continue to provide for them, as long as they stay together,” Welch said. “It’s a truly wonderful, amazing family … we want people to come out and be involved and listen to this extremely talented group from Tuscaloosa.”

Sharing their “music with a message,” the Lamb family has three studio recordings that include “PSALTERIUM,” “Music with a Message” and “Christmas with the Lambs.”
