The holidays bring a lot of family, food, leftovers and a lot of holiday garbage. This holiday season, local officials want you to make sure you don’t forget to take out the trash.

For Christmas and New Year’s, the city of Selma Public Works Department will have a holiday trash schedule for residents to follow to ensure no one is left behind.

“Just put it out just like we have it printed,” Public Works interim director Tommy Smith said. “Friday we don’t have garbage pickup. Monday’s will be picked up Tuesday, Tuesday picked up Wednesday, Wednesday picked up Thursday, Thursday is picked up Friday, which is the makeup day; everybody’s will be picked up within that week …”

The Public Works Department will be closed Friday, Dec. 23 and Monday, Dec. 26 in observance of Christmas and there will be no garbage or trash pickups on those days. Trash pickup will resume on Tuesday, Dec. 27.
