This holiday season, angels will bring tidings of good news.

Thanks to local community efforts, all angels from the Salvation Army Angel Tree have been accounted for and will receive gifts for Christmas.

With 30 angels that had not been accounted for earlier this week, Roberts said someone answered the call.

“We had a company that gave us money to purchase items for those kids,” Roberts said. “We went shopping (for them) Monday evening.”

Roberts said distribution day is today from 9 a.m. to noon inside the Old National Guard Armory on Dallas Avenue. Roberts said families were given numbers when they applied for the tree and were sent cards two weeks ago with directions on toy pickup.

“At this point, we have volunteers to come to help — the fireman will come and some of the church people will come,” Roberts said. “The biggest majority will be here before I open the door at 9 a.m. Come with ID cards and sign off when you’ve gotten your bag. It’s an in-and-out process if you have your card.”

Roberts said she was pleased with the excellent public response concerning this year’s Angel Tree and was appreciative of the help of others in getting ready for Thursday.

“Dallas County Tech program helped put gifts in bags — it was a big help,” Roberts said. “Sorrell Dental put a toothbrush, toothpaste and dental floss for every child in a bag. We appreciate the community for taking care of the children. We didn’t have to spend any money from the kettle (and) that makes a big difference.”
