James Jones: weathering a storm in my life

The unpredictable weather pattern continues to affect my life in different aspects since 2024 began.

A few days into the new year, I’m wearing a sweater, t-shirt, gloves trying to stay warm. A week later, I’m wearing shorts adapting to temperatures in the 80’s. Suddenly, storm storms sweep Dallas County followed by tornado warnings. While I’m grateful that the area survived a tornado hitting the area, this weather pattern baffles me.

My personal and professional orbit forced me to make adjustments because of the weather systems being  out of season.

I scheduled a trip to Pensacola last weekend, but canceled because a heavy thunderstorm engulfed the entire Gulf South region on May 18. I am not a big fan of unpredictable weather, especially when it forces me to change my routine. I use my time very wisely and I’m proud of doing so.

One of the few things I tolerate lateness is a date or meeting with a woman. I was taught to concede a woman being late. In the end, she’s usually worth it. A certain female in Dallas County is for me.

Selma High moved its graduation ceremony from Memorial Stadium to the basketball gymnasium. I covered the event and felt like being in a can of sardines alongside the graduates, their families and school officials. I confess, I was looking forward to graduation at Memorial Stadium, where the Saints play their home football games.

I am grateful that graduations Dallas County and Southside will be held under a fading sun,

I watch the local news channels and Weather Channel for their weather forecasts a day before, not in advance because things can always change.

My guess is that we’re facing a changing  climate and weather patterns. Storms are growing harder to predict and more intense. That’s the reality I’m dealing with at the moment. I just have to accept it.
