Tiffany Howard took a fortuitous route toward landing a master’s degree at Alabama State University.

Howard earned a master’s degree at ASU in social work and mental health on May 3. Howard, who finished with a 3.9 grade point average, published a journal article as the first author alongside her colleagues entitled “Navigating Adolescence: Addressing Mental Health Challenges through Social Work Practice and Policy.”

“My biggest takeaway from the MSW program is to complete tasks with quality over perfection,” Howard said. “I was extremely hard on myself and I always wanted my grades, events, and projects, to be perfect until my professor reminded me that everything in life is not perfect and to focus on the quality of things rather than perfection.”

Howard graduated from Dallas County in 2018 and received a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice at the University of South Alabama two years ago. Howard also graduated from Wallace Community College-Selma with an associate’s degree in arts and science.

A member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Howard credits her family for their support over the years. Howard is the daughter of Valley Grande’s Rhonda Howard and Theodore Howard Jr. of Gurnee, Illinois.

“I would not have been successful without the support of my family,” Howard said.
