2 Selma natives honored by University of Alabama

Two Selma natives were honored by the University of Alabama last week.

Mary Ousley was inducted into the Mortar Board National Honor Society. Valencia Bryant received the Cleophus Thomas Award.

The Mortar Board, a national honor society for men and women, is based on leadership, scholarship and service. Mortar Board is the premier national honor society recognizing college seniors for superior achievement in scholarship, leadership and service.

The Cleophus Thomas Award is awarded by the Black Faculty and Staff Association to the graduating seniors with the highest academic standing honoring the legacy of the first Black SGA president at Alabama. The mission of the Black Faculty and Staff Association is to contribute to the betterment of UA by serving as an advocate for educational equity, with an emphasis on African-American students, and the professional needs of its members.
