Jones receives Zeta Phi Beta Spirit of Hope Award

Selma Times-Journal managing editor James Jones received a Spirit of Hope Award by the Dallas County chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Saturday, March 30. 

Dr, Patricia Robinson, Colins Pettaway III, Cynthia Perkins, Hattie Shelton, Jo Celeste Pettway and Ruth Crenshaw were also honored by the Gamma Alpha Alpha Zeta chapter of Zeta Phi Beta.

“I was humbled to be honored on the same stage with the  first lady, retired school superintendent and one of the doctors in Selma,” Jones said. “With the event falling on Easter weekend, it will remain with me forever.”

The event was the chapter’s seventh-anniversary celebration of its Finer Womanhood Observance, under a theme “Denim and Pearls: An Evening to Relax, Release and Refresh with Christian Comedy.”

The award is part of Zeta’s top national program, Z-HOPE (Zetas Helping Other People). 

Comedian Mouthpiece was the guest speaker, providing humor on growing up in a christian home.
