Dallas County Sheriff Mike Granthum attended the Alabama Sheriffs Association’s Winter Technology Conference at the end of January.

A longtime law enforcement officer, Grantham was one of 67 sheriffs who represented each of the counties across the state held at the Auburn Marriott Opelika Resort and Spa at Grand National in Opelika from Jan. 21-24.

“I enjoyed the sheriff’s winter conference and had a good time,” Granthum said.

According to ASA Executive Director Jimmy Lambert, sheriffs participating in the conference were allowed to explore the latest technology innovations available for law enforcement through exhibits and live demonstrations.

“The conference also included leadership training and time for the sheriffs to meet and share ideas with each other,” Lambert said.

Training sessions provided technology information on a wide range of law enforcement issues, including sexual assault, drone programs, threat assessments, human trafficking, drug trafficking, gang activity, missing persons, and 911 preparedness

Dr. Kevin Elko, a consultant for several NFL and college sports teams, including the Pittsburgh Steelers and University of Alabama, was the guest speaker.

New ASA officers were installed during a banquet that had 80 sponsors.
