Election update tops County Commission meeting

An election update highlighted the Dallas County Commission meeting on Monday at the Dallas County Courthouse.

Dallas County Probate Judge Jimmy Nunn congratulated Commissioners Vivian Rogers and Connel Towns Sr. for their victories in the March 5 Primary Election.

Nunn said that himself, Commissioners Curtis Williams, Towns and Rogers will be on the Nov. 5 General Election ballot. Orrville Councilman William Lumpkin will face Independent Barry Allen in the Ward 4 Commissioner seat.  Nunn and Williams ran unopposed in the primary election. Circuit Court Judges Collins Pettaway Jr. and Don McMillian will also be on the ballot.

“We had a good election, but with a low turnout,” Nunn said. “It means something to win a race and [not] be dirty. There’s dirty politics on the national level. We had 23 percent and 6,815 people who voted. The state average was 20%.”

The March 5 results from the primary election were officially certified Tuesday.

In other business. the County Commission approved the Community Development Block Grant (CDGB) Bogue Chitto Water Project, a water service connection that approves grant-related invoices with the Dallas County Water Authority 

Dallas County Grant writer Cara Stallman said it cost over $130,000 to repair but without Dallas County money. Stallman said the clean drinking water will be tested and is already in some households.
