Dallas County had one of its lowest voter turnouts on March 5.

According to Dallas County Probate Judge Jimmy Nunn, voter turnout was in the low 20% margin.

“It’s one of the lowest turnouts we’ve had in a while,” Nunn said. “It’s important that people get out and vote. People sacrificed their lives for people to vote. It is important for Dallas County residents to get out and vote.”

Foot Soldiers like Louretta Wimberly, JoAnne Bland were among those beaten on March 7, 1965, historically known as “Bloody Sunday.”

We are disappointed with low vote totals, especially coming off the Bridge Crossing Jubilee. Local residents heard during the weeklong events, through Vice President Kamala Harris, U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell about voting. We heard their words, unfortunately, local residents did not.

For several Dallas County residents to not show up and vote is really disappointing.

“People complain, but they don’t vote.” Dallas County Sheriff Mike Granthum said.

Granthum makes a valid point. If this was a football or basketball game, it is like a star player who does not step up in a big game. We will put this to real life, people need to vote. Every vote counts, you can make a difference.
