Selma Again danced, sang at Ellwood Christian Academy

The “Selma Again” musical provided a unique mix of dancing and poetry reading on March 1 at Ellwood Christian Academy (ECA).
The 15-students from Selma had great chemistry with the musical company from Boston in the two hour program co-produced by Anna Myer and Jay Paris.
“Working with the kids turned out real well,” Paris said. “We want to be part of Selma and part of the young people’s lives.”
The Selma dancers were Christa Griffin, J’ila Lowe, Emily Pettway, Asia Rowe, Taylor Rose, Ja’Siya Sharpe, Teresa Smiley and Skyla Withers.
Selma poets were Jeremiah Alvarado. Ayiraa Fortier, Anthony Hopson, Zya Marshall, Carlie Richardson, Kweli Rashad Smiley and Alex Tower.
Gary Crum Sr., ECA principal and pastor, said he was pleased with the musical.
Carven Bernadeau and Oliver Burns were the hip-hop choreographers. Lucci Furman and Dakohai Mattiyahu were the company poets.
Rehearsal directors were Adraine Brayton and Mayra Hernandez.
Darnell Brown, Iziah Lawton, Abby Martz, Makeda Wallace, Marcel Santiago, Brayton and Hernandez were the company dancers.
Dalton Mims, Jay Paris, Bruce Petschek and Jules Petschek were part of the film crew.
The “Selma Again” cast thanked Kim Anderson, Rose Sanders, Gary Crum Sr., Charles A. Bonner, Calvin Marshall, Mary Rose and Rochelle WIthers for their support of the program.
