Morgan Academy junior Delaney McHugh will represent Morgan and Dallas County at the Pioneer Electric Youth Tour in March.

McHugh will be among 11 students selected to participate in leadership activities, visit elected officials and tour historical landmarks on March 12-14. McHugh beat out 25 other students, who completed an application, answered essay questions and submitted a resume.

“This is a huge accomplishment and makes me feel so special,” McHugh said. “I am so excited about improving my leadership and communications skills. I can not believe that I was chosen out of all the people that applied.”

Morgan Academy Guidance Counselor Sheryl Schroeder said McHugh gets a chance to gain knowledge on the trip.

“The program offers an opportunity for these high school juniors to experience government first-hand by visiting our state’s capitol, meet governmental leaders and engage in interactive workshops and discussions,’’l Schroeder said.

McHugh’s mother. Kim McHugh, a Pharmacist at Carter Drugs, said she is excited for her daughter to get this opportunity.

“I am proud of her, this will be a great experience,” Kim McHugh said.
