The Keith High School basketball team made its debut in the Alabama Sportswriters Association (ASWA) prep basketball poll Tuesday.

The Bears (13-8) are ranked 10th in Class 1A, and finally cracked the ranking after spending several weeks in the receiving votes category.  Keith is the only Dallas County boys’ team in the 1A poll.

Keith is led by guard Tommy Tisdale III, the 2023 Selma Times-Journal’s basketball player of the year and three-time All-State selection.

Head coach Marcus Turner is more focused on finishing the season strong.

The girls’ side of the poll saw a little shakeup too. Keith fell from the 1A poll after losing to A.L. Johnson on Jan. 17.

Unbeaten Selma and Southside kept their same positions in the poll. The Lady Saints (20-0) remained fifth in the Class 5A poll. The Lady Panthers (13-6) stayed seventh in the Class 3A rankings.

Selma High girls coach Willie Morgan continues his stance on ignoring the rankings, only for improvement each game.

“We’re undefeated, but we’ve got a long way to go,” Morgan said.
