Our opinion: cold snap gets replaced by heavy rain

Selma and Dallas County was recently hit with one of the worst cold spells in years. We saw temperatures get as low as 13 degrees at night and temperatures reach as high as 30 degrees during the day.
We appreciate Gospel Tabernacle Pastor John E. Grayson for providing comfort to local residents with the Winston Williams Welcome Center between the hours of 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. We applaud the local businesses that include Cougar Oil and KFC-Selma for stepping in to support the mission.
We get to thaw out this week, but heavy rain will greet us by Wednesday morning. According to National Weather Service Birmingham and local TV stations, the area will see heavy rain for three straight days. Day temperatures will be between the high 60’s and 70’s and nightly lows in the 50’s.
We advise area residents to stay dry and drive carefully under rainy conditions. It may not be cold outside, but it is still wise to use extra caution and practice safety.
