Three Dallas County girls basketball teams are ranked in the Alabama Sportswriters Association (ASWA) poll.
Selma High, Southside High and Keith High each are ranked in their respective classes.
The unbeaten Lady Saints (16-0) are ranked sixth in Class 5A. The Lady Panthers (11-4) are ranked seventh in Class 3A. The Lady Bears (7-7) are ranked ninth in Class 1A.
Keith coach Cecil Williams said the rating is a reflection of how hard the Lady Bears worked this season.
“It’s a good thing for my girls to see the work they put in to get some recognition,,” Williams said. “As for me, numbers mean nothing when it comes down to game play. We got to perform to advance and that’s my focus.”
Selma coach Willie Morgan said the ranking gives Lady Saints’ opponents extra incentive to beat them.
“We’re undefeated and its just a record,” Morgan said. “It puts us in the spotlight, which I don’t want right now. We’ve got a long way to go.”
The Saints (11-3) and Bears (9-8) each received votes in the poll. Selma opened the season with a 9-1 start and made the Top10.
Selma coach Daron Rembert is not concerned about the rankings, only that the Saints improve each game.
