Dallas County High School (DCHS) linebacker Ty’Darious Shannon competed in the Offense-Defense (O-D) All-American Bowl on Dec. 28 at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.

The O-D All-American Bowl at IMG Academy is a showcase of the top football players in the country. The format is a  platform for young athletes to display their abilities, and gain exposure to land college scholarships.

“For as long as I can remember I always wanted to play football, and when the opportunity presented itself I had to take advantage of it,” Shannon said. “ I remember the first time my dad took me on the field we would run plays.

“It was my freshman year and I was still new to high school football, and to be honest I wasn’t the greatest athlete. However, because of God, my parents , my trainer and coaches I was able to become the young athlete that I am today!

Shannon, a junior, said it was also a great opportunity to impress college recruiters.

“The training sessions with top coaches to an informative seminar on college recruitment, nutrition, and character development,” Shannon said. “I received comprehensive guidance to support my growth both on and off the field. This experience is just a tiny part of my journey with my football career for college.

“I walked away knowing that this experience is going to play a huge part in my life as something I will remember and how it has made me a better person, athlete and most importantly a better teammate. I want to thank everyone for this wonderful experience.”

Interim coach Bert Crum said he was not surprised that Shannon earned an opportunity to attend a prestigious camp.

“TyDarious was our team captain for most of the year<” Crum said. “He is joy to coach, he always shows up, he’s a very hard worker, very coach able and an overall joy to have on our team.  I only wish we had several more students athletes just like him. I believe he will be successful in whatever he chooses to do because he has that “it” factor
