Winston Williams Homeless Shelter approaches goal

The Winston Williams Homeless Shelter for the Homeless enters the week with $11,250 in donations from various organizations throughout Selma and Dallas County.

Mason and Company led the donations at $2,000. Cougar Oil, Kentucky Fried Chicken-Selma CRL-Lovelady Construction, Black Belt Benefit Group and an anonymous group all gave $1,000.

Trustmark National Bank and Hancock’s BBQ each donated $500.

Other organizations that donated were: M&M Plumbing ($300), Cornerstone Realty ($300), Phillip Hemphill ($300), Computer & Data Network Services ($250), AB Fabrication ($200), Southland Company ($250). Vasser’s ($250), Allen Construction ($250), Tad Moore Hicc=kory Classics ($300), Susan Youngblood ($100), Realty Central ($200),  Dawn Aultman ($100), Bucky Barrett ($100) and Dallas County Moose Lodge #1737.

Rex Jones of Cougar Oil said he and KFC-Selma owner Mark Woodson started the drive, then other organizations stepped up to support the shelter that was opened up by Gospel Tabernacle Pastor John E. Grayson. Jones said the goal was to reach $10,000 and they surpassed it.

“I thank Pastor Grayson, his wife Dr. Cece Grayson and Gospel Tabernacle for all they do and we thank the city of Selma for showing the real heart that the city has,” Jones said. 

Pastor Grayson said that Cougar Oil is providing life-changing support to the homeless community in Selma and Dallas County.

Donations can be mailed to Gospel Tabernacle COGIC-Selma, P.O. Box 892, Selma, Alabama, 36702 and put “Shelter Fund” on the FOR Line.

The homeless shelter is open daily from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
