For some, the City of Minter sometimes gets overlooked in Dallas County.

According to the 2020 Census, Minter has a population of 667, far below Selma, Valley Grande and Orrville.

The Selma Times-Journal is aware of Minter’s existence. We see and cover Minter’s annual Christmas Parade every year. We’re always impressed with the overflow crowd and the vendors that sell an assortment of hot dogs, french fries, hamburgers and nachos.

We applaud the effort of Margaret Fails, who founded the Minter Christmas parade over 20 years ago. Fails added something new to the parade, giving away bicycles, footballs and basketballs to kids.

Minter always had strong leadership in Dallas County Commissioner Connell Towns and former Commissioner Valerie Reuben. Dallas County Probate Judge Jimmy Nunn and Dallas County Sheriff Mike Granthum also care about Minter, and so do we.
