In 2010, the History Channel introduced viewers to a different kind of antiquing experience with the premiere of “American Pickers.” Fast forward to 2024 and the dynamic pickers are gearing up for a return trip to Alabama, bringing their quest for hidden gems and forgotten relics to the heart of the South.

The premise of American Pickers goes beyond the typical antique show. These pickers are on a mission to recycle America, diving headfirst into piles of grimy junk and navigating challenges like gun-wielding homeowners, all in the pursuit of turning one person’s trash into another’s treasure.

Venturing from coast to coast, the team explores junkyards, basements, garages and barns, uncovering the stories behind each piece they rescue.

In Feb. 2022, the show made a memorable stop in Selma, visiting Rex Jones, CEO of Cougar Oil, and delving into his impressive collection of gas, oil and auto memorabilia.

“It was a great experience,” Jones said. “Being able to shine the spotlight on Selma was one of the highlights for me. I had them here from about 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. so it was a long day. A lot of the stuff they bought they didn’t use for the show. You could tell they really wanted to get a good deal, so the negotiations were real.”

Now, in 2024, the American Pickers crew is set to make a triumphant return to Alabama. Their mission remains unchanged-to discover historically significant or rare items and meet characters with remarkable stories.

As the crew plans to film episodes throughout the area in Feb. of 2024, the show is on the lookout for leads. They are eager to explore hidden treasures, hear unique stories and acquire items that stand out. However, it’s essential to note that the pickers do not venture into stores, flea markets, malls, auction businesses, museums or anything open to the public.

“Afterwards, I heard from a lot of people about their collections,” Jones said. “So, I am excited to see if anyone can get them to come back.”

If you believe you have a hidden treasure that fits the bill, the American Pickers team encourages you to reach out. You can contact them by sending your name, phone number, location and a description of the collections with photos to or by calling (646)493-2184.

As the crew prepares to return to Alabama, the journey to uncover rusty gold and extraordinary items continues, promising another chapter filled with fascinating tales from the heart of the south.
