Our opinion: We’re pleased with All-Dallas County volleyball picks

The Selma Times-Journal released its annual All Dallas County volleyball team picks during Thanksgiving weekend and received some complaints on social media. Comments were posted over the weekend, indicating some readers did not agree with our coach of the year and player of the year selections.

We’re not upset that a few people disagreed with our choices. We welcome feedback, whether good or bad. That’s how we learn what resonates with our readers.

We don’t judge selections based on whether coaches or athletes come from public or private schools. Our decisions are based on which candidates had the best year.

Dallas County High School had the best year out of all the public schools and David Hobson did a great year coaching.

But in the end, we felt that what Ashley Fancher did was more impressive, earning Coach of the year at Meadowview Christian School.

The same goes for Emme Albritton who won Player of the Year at Morgan Academy. Albritton shined as the only senior for the Lady Senators.

Reaching the Elite Eight in the Alabama Independent School Association (AISA) has always served as the measuring stick, which the Lady Senators accomplished this season.

While some may not approve of our honorees for the All County volleyball team, we stand by our selections and the players who made the prestigious squad.
