The city of Selma could be home to the best infielder in Major League Baseball someday.

The future looks bright for Baltimore Orioles Gunnar Henderson, a former Morgan Academy Prep All-American who was named American League Rookie of The Year last week.

We’re not surprised at Henderson’s quick rise up the MLB ladder.  We saw Henderson flash that potential on the diamond at Morgan Academy and earn a scholarship to play at Auburn University. Anytime you get a scholarship to play in the SEC, considered as the nation’s top baseball conference, it’s a big deal.

And its a bigger deal when you turn down a chance to play in the SEC after the Orioles used a second-round pick in the 2019 MLB draft to call in the rookie.

We’re looking forward to watching Henderson play next year with the Orioles and for years to come.
