Emme Albritton continued a volleyball tradition at Morgan Academy this season.
Albritton is The Selma Times-Journal’s volleyball player of the year, becoming the third Lady Senator to achieve a high honor over the last five years.
Madison Hood of Dallas County and Addie Fancher of Meadowview Christian School were also considered.
Maggie Colley and Keenan McHugh are also former players of the year at Morgan Academy.
Albritton, the West MVP at the AISA All-Star volleyball game, said it was a memorable senior season. She had over 300 kills, 100 blocks.
“It means something because I was the only senior on the squad,” Albritton said. “When coach Graham was talking to some of the players, the rest of the team looked to me.”
Morgan Academy volleyball coach Glen Graham said Albritton played a big role in the Lady Senators reaching the Elite Eight.
“Emme is a multi-talented player,” Graham said. “She can play any position. She was a great on-court vocal leader for us.”
Albritton said she learned a lot from McHugh, a two-time player of the year.
“Keenan and I have always been tight,” Albritton said. “We’re like sisters. We’re two different players.”
After high school graduation, Albritton said she plans to attend Troy University next year and major in psychology. She’s an honor student with a 3.86 GPA and a 23 ACT score.
