Selma Police Evidence Tech found dead

The Selma Police Department (SPD) found its investigator dead from a gunshot wound on a roadway Wednesday morning.

According to Selma Police Chief Kenta Fulford, SPD officers responded around 1 a.m. to the 3400 block of Water Avenue after receiving a report of a person shot.

As officers arrived, they found Jamyron Hope unresponsive on the ground. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Fulford said Hope was an evidence technician for the department.

The Special Agents with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) State Bureau of Investigation have taken the lead on the investigation.

Sgt. Jeremy Burkett said the intersection of Water Street and U.S. Highway 80 will be blocked for an extended period of time.

“Please keep Evidence Tech. Hope’s family and the Selma Police Department in your thoughts and prayers,’’ Fulford said. in a statement.

Mayor James Perkins Jr. , expresses his personal condolences to the family, colleagues and friends of Mr. Hope. No further details are being released at this time and the case remains under investigation.
