Jakayla Rowe named student of month by Selma City Council

Payne Elementary sixth-grader Jakayla Rowe was recently named Selma City Council student of the month for October.

Councilman Billy Young praised Rowe for her strong academics and leadership on and off the field. Payne Elementary School Principal Tamera Carter attended the City Council meeting.

“We are grateful for our young educators,” Young said. “The children are our future.”

Rowe’s favorite subject is science, and she loves reading.

Payne Elementary administrators expressed gratitude in the recognition and released a statement.

“We want to express our deep appreciation to Mayor Perkins, Mr. Billy Young, Ms. Jannie Thomas, and our dedicated Selma City Council for taking the time to honor and acknowledge Jakayla’s achievements,” Payne Elementary said in a statement. “Their support is a testament to the city’s commitment to its outstanding young individuals.

“This recognition is a reminder of the incredible potential and achievements that exist within our community. We are extremely proud of Jakayla and grateful for the support of all those who have contributed to her success.”
