The Selma City Council voted to amend the 2024 Fiscal Year to clarify that the minimum wage is $12.
The two sides approved a budget on Sept. 26, but certain aspects, such as minimum wage, still required work.
“As Council President, I want to thank my colleagues for the continued support for the City of Selma and its personnel,” President Billy Young said.
The entire city council approved: Young, council members Christie Thomas, Clay Carmichael, Atkin Jemison, Michael Johnson, Lesia James, Jannie Thomas Troy Harvill, and Sam Randolph.
Perkins wants the city council to look closely at defending $2.8 million in proposed positions. Perkins said defunded positions brought the figure down to $2.6 million.
“Removing this much in salaried positions does much harm to the city’s ability to perform at the needed level,” Perkins said.
