Several Major League Baseball observers predict future stardom for former Morgan Academy shortstop Gunnar Henderson and so do we.
Henderson, 22, helped the Baltimore Orioles earn the best record in the American League (AL) and the AL Eastern Division championship. He’s a runaway favorite to earn the AL Rookie of the Year award.
What we’re impressed with is how Henderson accomplished so much in a rookie season. He tied Cal Ripken’s rookie homer record with 28 and broke Ripken’s run record with 99 runs.
We don’t like comparing players, especially since Ripken is regarded as one of the greatest infielders ever and a Hall of Famer.
But Henderson is on his way to becoming a star, according to Baltimore Orioles’ color analyst Ben McDonald.
“In two seasons, Gunnar Henderson will be a household name in MLB,” McDonald said.
We’re so proud of what Henderson did in his first full MLB season and can’t wait for many more years.
